A small city with very little to do apart from churches.
A small city with very little to do apart from churches. The river is beautiful, but the majority of the city is bland.
The traditional food was very good and easily the part of the trip.
However, we were racially abused by a fellow patron of a restaurant who called us 'untermensch' and verbally assaulted us for speaking English not German. The restaurant did very little to help us.
Overall I felt rather unwelcome after this and wished to return home immediately. You are better off just staying in Frankfurt

We were in Mainz for only two full days but saw and experienced a lot. The Altstadt is beautiful. We visited the Gutenberg Museum and enjoyed their mini-workshop a lot. As an artist, my favourite was the St Stephan's Cathedral, with the stained glass windows designed by Chagall. I did not know of its existence, and I loved it! The Roman Theatre at the Romische Teater train station was not that impressive, as we could only look at it through construction wire. It would have been nice to sit there and contemplate its history. Nevertheless, I am glad I saw it. We also visited the Volkspark on a public holiday, and it was interesting to see how ordinary German families enjoy a sunny day.

Mainz is a fantastic city.
Mainz is a fantastic city. It has all the flavors what I long for. The strong history heritage, z.b. Mainz dom; the best wein Jard region of the world, z.b Rhine Weingau; authentic German food; the active growing business environment; the city is not big but just big enough for everything. Mainz is the city , the longer you stay, the more you love and you will go away. Ich liebe Mainz.

The location is great if you have an early departure from the train station, but not so great if you want to go out to the old town in the evening.
What I liked was the convenience around my train trip snd the good quality of the hotel.
I cannot remember why I chose to book this particular hotel. I was only stopping in Mainz to catch an early bus to Frankfurt Hahn Airport (another mistake!). It is indeed close to the Railway station and the Bus Stop and its location is its best feature. With hindsight, I should have demanded to see the room before paying for it but with my arrival in Mainz delayed by 2 hours, I just went with it. (The check-in desk behind a perspex screen should have been a warning sign.)
What a good surprise! This hotel is much more than just a place to stay near the Mainz central station. The room was super comfortable and very clean, good bathroom, great breakfast and the most friendly staff. Great value for money. And since Mainz is not a big city, it's easy to walk from the hotel to the city centre, river side and all the main attractions. If I ever come back to Mainz, I will certainly stay here again.
We only stayed 1 night at Novotel Mainz but really enjoyed it. The hotel is a short walk from the train station (although uphill). The family room was large and had everything we required, even a mini bar. The room was quiet and the beds comfy and we enjoyed the swimming pool. We didn't have the breakfast so can't comment on that. I would definitely recommend the hotel and stay here again.
Absolutely stunning and very spacious room with a beautiful view of the castle and river. 10 minute walk to the Dom platz and Old Town where we enjoyed the Saturday market immensely. a/c worked great and was the first hotel to actually have a king bed with single mattress (not 2 beds pushed together as is the case with most hotels in Germany :)
The room was spacious. Breakfast and staff was super nice. Good location. Walking distance from shops old town and restaurants. Even got an omelet made by staff which was super delicious. So thanks to the breakfast staff. The gym was not in the hotel, but a small walk from hotel, with all the latest equipment and super friendly staff.
We cant arrive because we have a really big problem that loose a bag with passport etc and we have to return to the city we loose it. We explain to the hotel that we have really documents of the police that explain the reason that we can reach the reservation. We told to booking but the payment was already make. :(
Location is in the Neustadt, which is a medium-distance walk to the sights of Mainz’s Altstadt. The apartment has a nice kitchen and there is a very nice Rewe supermarket nearby along Rheinallee. The main living area has a large bed, and the bedroom has two small beds. So it is very good for family.
The hotel is exceptionally clean and the staff are welcoming. Our room was a good size and the bed was very comfortable, the bathroom had plenty of room with a very good shower. The location is quiet and characterful but is only a short distance from shops and transport into the centre of Mainz.
Loved the location across from the train station. Breakfast was very good and served in a lovely room. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful.
My room at the back was clean and comfortable. and quiet, as per my quiet room request.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Comfortable room with good air-con. Good breakfast buffet. Hotel well located, only a short distance from main train station - and a variety of shops and restaurants. A good hotel for a visit to Mainz.
Quiet location above the town and a twenty minute walk down to the centre. Good room and view out over the front of the hotel of trees and greenery. Good parking in the hotel grounds which was free, at least for a motorcycle.
Location is amazing, right by all the Old City attractions, easy to walk around. There was a problem with the apartment so we ended up moving to the associated hotel. The manager was amazing, very friendly and helpful.
A Modern and conveniently located hotel by the station and 15 min walk into town. Mainz is charming city and this hotel, (.along).with a great breakfast) was a perfect 1 night stay
Hotel Roemerstein is a family run small hotel situated in a quiet location close to Mainz University with easy assess to the city centre and the friendly helpful staff.
Directly opposite of Mainz train station. Very convenient to travel in and out of Mainz. Staff is helpful in providing information on to-do activities in Mainz.
What a lovely surprise: beautiful hotel by the river, 10 minutes walk from the old town, great pool and gym and most loveliest and welcoming staff ever!
